During the time of Jesus, Temples were the place of Jewish Government. I say Jewish government for the Romans would be considered the occupying force enforcing rule of law on matters that concerned them. However the Temples were the place for religious discussion and understanding of the Torah and the subsequent “divine laws” that were interpreted from the text. These laws were now enforced like most religious laws, by the people, ostracizing those who did not conform. The “1%”, the religious leaders and rich members of society” bough those discussions, which lead to “divine laws” that benefited themselves and not the people. Jesus rebelled against this bastardization of his father’s teachings and their misinterpreted meanings.
